Huntress

Life After Book One
10x Award-winning Young Adult Novel

Death was only the beginning...

No one's afterlife is as dispiriting as Audrey's-at least that's what she believes after waking up dead without her memories and being promptly assigned to hunt demons for the rest of eternity.

She's convinced God's made a cosmic mistake; after all, she'd rather discuss the color of her nails than break them on angelic weapons. It doesn't help that her trainer, Logan, is as infuriating as he is attractive. And just when Audrey and Logan appear close to developing an amicable relationship, a decision made under duress will push their hearts in a direction neither of them saw coming.

Despite her sub-par fighting abilities, an ancient weapon of unparalleled power chooses Audrey as its wielder, attracting the cautious gazes of her fellow hunters and the attention of Satan himself. With Satan's eyes now fixed on Audrey, a battle for the safety of the living looms in the shadows.

Love + Praise

Fantastic world building! This author has created an interesting and desirable afterlife. I loved the unique take on angels, demons and the life after death. The characters are likable. Audrey is flawed and confused but also filled with untapped strength. Logan is strong and swoon-worthy. The romance is sweet, mysterious, frustrating and perfect. Enough action and mystery to keep me flipping the pages. Can’t wait for book 2.

Kelly Oram, Author of The SUPERNATURALS Series
Not since Frank Peretti, has an author had the writing genius to weave together spiritual and physical worlds into a believable epic journey. Julie Hall is destined to be one of the great fiction writers of our time. Her first work will keep young adults riveted, expanding their sense of wonder and challenging them to think about forces and powers beyond what they can see.

Julie Hall has given readers in Audrey a heroine who is strong, vulnerable, and relatable, and has set her in a world so imaginative and exciting that I can’t help but want to be there. This book creates a safe place to ask questions, but also shows us that we will not always get the answers we want. The adventure is in moving ahead in faith even without them.
Catherine Parks, Author of A Christ Centered Wedding
Life After is absolutely charming, imaginative and sweet. It is a fast-paced, original and intriguing story. I hope it’s a series because I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This action packed novel has a unique way of expressing timeless truth about relationships, God, identity and purpose in a fun and non-threatening way. I fell in love with the characters and couldn’t put this book down!

An Interview w/ Julie

1. What lead you to write a book series like this? What made you feel qualified?

I've always had an itch to write a book or a series, but never able to finish one. This story appeared to me in chunks and I basically filled in the blanks. It's no joke that God helped me write the book. Without Him I wouldn't have had the inspiration to put word to page. So anything that is good in the story is from Him, and anything you don't like is my fault. Sorry!

As far as qualifications go, I'm still not sure I am qualified to write, but I did anyway!

2. In what ways did you find it easy or hard to relate to your main character?

I think most author's would admit that it's hard to disassociate yourself from your main character. Especially when you're writing in First Person. Do I think I'm Audrey? NO! But there are definitely elements of "me" in her. Getting in her head was like finding her in my own and giving her a voice. When my and her voice was the same it was easy. But when she wasn't thinking like I was, it was harder to get her thoughts on paper.

3. Do you believe you’ve written an accurate description of the afterlife?

Nope! And to be honest this has been one of the things that has always bothered me throughout the writing process. There are biblical elements in my book, but so much of the world I created came from my imagination. I worried that people would mistake my book as my literal translation of the after life. That is would be too Christian for the non-Christian, and not Christian enough for the believers. I've had to come to terms that it is what it is and trust that God will work it out in each individual's heads. Although I do kind of hope that some of us will be able to kick a little demon butt after we die.

4. Who is the reader who is going to love this story? And why?

Over the past years the age lines drawn for Young Adult readers has blurred considerably. No longer are young adult books only for those in middle and high school. I believe Twilight had a lot to do with that. Before there was a tiny section in a book store for young adult books, now you enter and there are rows of young adult books. Therefore, I don't think there's a particular age for the reader. I think it will appeal to people who love to read adventure stories with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. I think the audience for Life After: Huntress is broad, the word about the book just needs to get out. It's a fun read!

5. Will this book appeal to non-Christians?

I certainly hope so. One of my most faithful and encouraging beta readers is a non-believer. I've asked that question to her repeatedly, and she thinks that this isn't a story just for those who believe in a Holy God. It's exciting enough to capture a broader audience. I always wanted this story to be for the Christian and non-Christian alike, so I hope the readership will be diverse.

6. If there were one message you could get to your readers through your book, what would it be?

Oh gosh, after all my talk about the book appealing to Christians and non-Christian alike I'm going to blow it here. Oh well. The one message I want to get through to my readers is that God is real and that He loves each and every one of us desperately.

7. What parts of the story were the most fun to write? And which parts were the hardest?

I'm a girl, so I'll just put it out there, the scenes involving Logan and Audrey were my most fun to write. And then a close second were any of the fight scenes...I did have fun writing the scene with the devil as well. The hardest were the bridge scenes that supplied important information to the reader and moved the story forward.

8. Any spoilers you can reveal for the next book in the series?

Oh, yikes! Am I supposed to reveal that? I'm not sure, my publisher has been a little hazy on the details of that. I do have some scenes from the book that hit the cutting room floor during editing that I've included on the site. I couldn't just not let them see the light of day! These may or may not effect the storyline of the current or future Life After series. You'll just have to wait for the book to be released to find out!
